Go digital in Rathfriland next month

TELEVISION is switching to digital all over the UK and in October 2012 the traditional TV signal will be switched off in Northern Ireland.

If you don’t have digital TV by the time of switchover, you will lose your TV channels - but Rathfrilanders can attend a special informtation day next month to find out more about it all.

The BBC-run Switchover Help Scheme will be visiting locations throughout Northern Ireland this year from November 8 to 17, and again in January 2012, to offer older and disabled residents advice about the practical help they can receive to switch to digital TV.

Most people are ready for switchover, but there may be people you know that need help to make the switch. If you or someone you know is struggling with what to do, please drop in to Church Square in Rathfriland on Wednesday September 12 between 10am and 4pm.

Nigel Tilson, Northern Ireland Manager for the Switchover Help Scheme said, “We are urging people to drop in and speak to our team face-to-face, where they can also try out digital equipment first hand, receive help filling out a Switchover Help Scheme application form and ask the team any questions.

“We help everyone who is 75 and over, or eligible disabled. Even if you are ready for switchover, there may be friends, family or neighbours that still need help so please lend a Helping Hand and invite them along to the roadshow.”

For £40, or for free for people who are eligible and also on income related benefits, the Help Scheme offers: easy to use equipment to convert one set; an approved installer to supply and install the necessary equipment; a 12 month aftercare service including a free helpline; a check on their TV aerial and replacement if necessary, where we can.

The Help Scheme has already written directly to eligible people in the area with the offer of help and the Help Scheme Bus provides an excellent opportunity to simply find out more information.
