Former nurse and St John Ambulance worker

FORMER nurse and member of St John’s Ambulance Brigade, Mrs Violet Eta Currans, passed away recently at Seapatrick Care Home.

Mrs Currans, who died on Saturday, January 5th, had resided for most of her life at 10 Kenlis Street, Banbridge,

The dear mother of William and John, she attended primary school in the town and then continued her education at Banbridge Academy.

After leaving school, Mrs Currans looked after her late mother, Sarah Jane, and, for a while, her father, David.

She worked in Ballydown and Brookfield factories and was held in the highest esteem by her employers and fellow workers.

A member of the St John’s Ambulance Brigade and a nurse with the Banbridge Corp, she was a woman of a quiet and friendly disposition.

The family would like to thank staff at Seapatrick Care Home and Archdeacon Roderic West for all their help regarding the care of Mrs Currans who is survived by her two sons, two daughters-in-law, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

The funeral took place from William Bell and Co. Funeral Home on Tuesday, 8th January, to the New Cemetery. The large congregation in the Funeral Home heard Archdeacon Roderic West pay a fitting tribute to Eta’s life.

Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to William Bell and Co. Funeral Directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, for Cancer Research NI.
