Eucharistic Congress medal presented to Gerladine
AT the annual Cemetery Mass in St Patrick’s Cemetery in Banbridge on last Thursday Bishop John McAreavey presented a medal commemorating the International Eucharistic Congress to Geraldine McClory, the Diocesan Delegate for the Diocese of Dromore.
Bishop McAreavey thanked Ms McClory for all the work she had carried out in attending meetings, disseminating information and promoting the Congress in the two years leading up to it.
The Bishop also spoke about the joy and sense of communion experienced by those who attended or followed the events during the 50th International Eucharistic Congress.
In Seapatrick, as in other parishes in the Diocese, celebrations during the week of the Congress were held to support the theme of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of Church, a deepened understanding of the liturgy and of the social dimension of the Eucharist.
Bishop McAreavey spoke of the privilege of celebrating the Eucharist with pilgrims from over 120 countries as well as from all parts of Ireland and experiencing the programme of cultural events, catechesis, testimonies, and workshops.
More than 450 pilgrims from the Diocese of Dromore attended Statio Orbis - the final celebration of the Eucharist at the 2012 International Congress.
